Quiet Stream and Roaring Stream

Here’s another shot that I took when I was in Ricketts Glen in Pennsylvania. Although waterfalls are the main feature of the park, there are plenty of other things to photograph there as well, including the streams that are between the falls. In some cases, they are smooth brooks, babbling along with a quiet serenity. In other cases, they are gushing cascades, roaring with the sound of rushing water.

I simply love how the water flows over the rocks and through the channels in the above shot.

This one was far more peaceful. Here the water gently flowed downstream, creating this picturesque scene.

Which do you prefer? The strong, roaring current or the serene, quiet stream?

One More Waterfall (for now…)

I know that I must be boring you all with all the waterfall shots I’ve been showing of late. This’ll be the last one, for now.

Truth to tell, however, I almost can’t help it. As I’ve mentioned before, I love waterfalls and if you love waterfalls and go to a place like Ricketts Glen, that’s like dropping off a kid in a place like Toys R Us, except that all the toys are unwrapped and the kid can play with whatever s/he wants.

This shot is of the B Reynolds Falls, a 40 foot cascade. As with all these shots, there are far more beautiful in person than any picture that I can take.

More Waterfalls

Well, a dead computer and some family stuff kept me from editing my Ricketts Glen photos, but now things are back up and running. I still have more photos to edit, as well as some shots from Central Park in Manhattan that I hope to get to later this week.

Unfortunately, however, it seems that I lost most of my trip to Macedonia Brook State Park. This is particularly frustrating because I have an automatic online backup solution, but it seems that it didn’t quite finish backing up those shots. It also didn’t finish backing up my Ricketts Glen and Central Park photo shoots, but, fortunately, I hadn’t yet deleted those shots off my card, so I was able to recover them (I did lose some of the editing work I had done on those, but I can recover them and, truth to tell, I wasn’t all that happy with the first edits anyway).

At some point in the near future, I’ll write up a post about my computer-crash and data recovery experience and the lessons I’ve learned. However, for now, I’m here to give you two more pics from Ricketts Glen.

More Fall Foliage

While Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania is primarily known for its waterfalls, it also boasts some of the most beautiful fall foliage I’ve ever seen. After following the falls trails, I hiked along the Highland Trail, taking shots of nature’s wonderful color show.

I plan to have the rest of my Ricketts Glen shots up this week. If you love waterfalls and you love beautiful places, I highly recommend spending a day there. Just remember to bring good hiking boots!

Flowing Waters

There is something calming about the sound of water flowing. It doesn’t really matter if it’s just a small babbling brook or even the roar of a mighty waterfall — the sound of water moving in nature is peaceful (provided, of course, that you know that you’re safe from the water). If I sit and close my eyes and listen to a stream or the ocean surf, I can enter a peaceful realm in my mind, where my troubles just disappear for a little while. When you’re surrounded by a peaceful setting in nature, then it’s all the more pronounced. I could just sit here and be at peace for hours.

Erie Falls

I’m still going through the pictures I took at Ricketts Glen State Park, but I had to share this pic. This is a shot of Erie Falls, one of the larger falls in the park.

As I’ve said before, I’m a sucker for waterfall pictures. I just love how the water tumbles over the rocks in this shot. I hope to put up a complete album soon, but, for now, I just wanted to share this one.

Ricketts Glen State Park — A Place of Beauty

As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m a sucker for waterfall pictures. I love the image of water cascading down a falls — especially if it’s a long exposure so that the water takes on a silky smooth appearance.

Well, if you like waterfalls, then you have to visit Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania. This park has about twenty waterfalls in it — varying in different types and sizes. Some are straight drops, some tumble gently over rocks and some shoot violently through crevasses formed by the rushing water. There are small falls, such as the Cayuga Falls at 11 feet, while others are huge drops, including the 90-foot drop of the Ganoga Falls. Going there during the autumn, just as the trees were showing off their colors was an even bigger treat.

I spent about eight hours in the park, making a loop along two branches of the river. When I wasn’t busy climbing, I was busy being mesmerized by the beauty of the place. If you like photographing waterfalls, then this place is your dream come true.

It’s going to be a few days before I have all my shots edited, but for now, here are two of the shots I have. This first one is of Cayuga Falls. The drop here is 11 feet.
